Before taking the plunge in selecting an automation path, consider ramping up your business intelligence to understand your work process.

Paper workflows are a great place to start. Paper is a leading indicator of workflow health and efficiency. Similar to blood pressure warning of potential problems in your body, paper is a symptom of inefficacy.

Follow your paper workflows and you will find the bottlenecks in your organization. There are several good tools out there to collect the workflow data. The problem is that most of these tools are sold by the same companies that sell copiers and other paper producing products.

To eliminate obvious conflicts of interest from vendor agendas, it's important to structure any SaaS agreement offering these tools wisely to ensure unfiltered access to the raw business intelligence.

The Article below from Forbes has good information to ponder before you automate:

"Automation is all the buzz in 2020. Covid-19 has shown businesses where they need to supplement their human capital with technology assistance to maintain operations. Using digital assistants and technologies like robotic process automation (RPA), businesses can provide their team members with a digital sidekick to get work done."

Dark Data is defined as the information businesses collect and do not utilize to leverage value. The challenge is to find the data and bring it to light, in a form of actionable intelligence.

A nonintuitive place to start is paper. Paper workflow data leads to opportunities to automate processes. Unstructured paper documents (and PDFs) from vendor contracts to leases to invoices offer a path t

o find money to fund the automation opportunities.

We call this business intelligence transformation the "paper path to prosperity" #paperpath2prosperity.
